We’ve been up to our eyes in the edit suite since the Bank Holiday, when we shot a product launch for Honda Power Equipment in Bristol and the Quantocks, which brings me to a vital point in my musings about filming.
You can’t beat natural light … doesn’t matter how much you fiddle around in a studio; a big burst of sunlight is just the ticket when you need illumination.
Painters and photographers know this, as well as good lighting camera operators. We were asked to bring HMIs (lights that mimic natural light) just in case the weather at our stunning garden location was a ‘bit overcast’, and my experienced cameraman, Mike Fox, and I stuck our necks out saying that reflectors were adequate for the job.
Apart from anything else lugging a generator around and setting it up gobbles up precious time on set.
As it turned out fortune favoured the brave, and the weather was glorious.
Although it was a long day and required intense concentration, it was great to be working outdoors on a quality film project.
Watch this space for the launch of a very special Honda garden product in August!
