So how many people watched the leaders’ debate on BBC1 last night?
The election is close now, very close – and we’ve had so much media hype over the last few weeks, so perhaps it’s surprising that the Birmingham debate, hosted by David Dimbleby was viewed by almost 2m fewer people than the first debate on ITV1 two weeks ago.
The average viewing figures for the 90 minute programme last night were 7.3m, peaking at 8m at around 9pm, half an hour in. That’s compared to ITV’s 9.4m and Sky’s 2.4m.
That’s out of 46m voters in the UK.
