When Bradley Wiggins made his lung bursting final sprint on the penultimate day of the Tour de France, a massive chunk of British sporting history was made. The guy is a total hero! He’s not only Sir Wiggins of Kilburn for his sportsmanship, slowing to allow his rivals to catch up after tacks had been thrown on the track in the middle of the race, but also for the ‘total’ approach to his chosen endeavour.
Even if you don’t get cycling, respect is due to this man. He’s done the miles, made the sacrifice and now is reaping the reward. Britain’s first winner of the greatest and most punishing bicycle race in the world.
His achievement is a breath of fresh air set against the narcissistic, silly froth of celebrity culture that masquerades as greatness.
To top it all, he’s a fan of Paul Weller!
