Filming high above Newton Abbot in Devon, we’ve been following the construction of an 18 metre Skywing Wind Turbine.
It’s a fascinating process seeing the engineers and electricians install this high tech windmill at a farm hoping to capitalise on the benefits of clean wind energy.
The wind turbine is one of the bigger models sold by our client Coemi; when it’s up and working it’ll be capable of converting 20Kwph of wind to energy to the grid, and will save farmer, Andrew Gale (no pun intended on the name), a shed load of money in electricity bills.
What amazed the crew, was the simplicity of it all. The Skywing’s high tech properties are contained in a computer inside the head of the turbine; this will measure wind speed and will allow engineers to monitor the turbine online.
As for the rest; well, windmills are as old as the hills, and the alternator and brakes inside the turbine are part of the 20th century revolution in motor mechanics. So no surprises here!
In the sunshine, away from the other types of political turbulance at Westmnster, our hilltop recording of the wind turbine going up was a relaxing and interesting way to shoot the wind.
