Globally, the Twitter trending topic #ge2010 has averaged number two this week (1st May – 7th May incl.) after reaching number one at its peak on Thursday and Friday.
#ge2010 even ousted the Follow Friday #ff moniker for the first time in weeks.
Of course, these figures could be expected in the UK, but given the popularity of Twitter in the USA, Europe and increasingly, Asia, peaking at number one globally is quite a feat.
Thousands of Parliamentary and council candidates have been tweeting during the campaign, although many with extreme caution after Bristol East Labour MP and ‘Twitter Tsar’ Kerry McCarthy revealed the results of a sample of postal votes before Polling Day.
Facebook has proved the most popular social media platform for candidates.
