Google has launched its own social media platform to compete with Facebook and Twitter.

The beauty of Google doing this is that it doesn’t need any special sign-up – instead, it’s all done through gmail. That, and the fact that from launch, most of the main Western social networking platforms are already integrated, with the notable exception of Facebook.

There’s only one problem with it, and it if fails, it’ll be down to this: there’s nothing at all new or original about it, so unless Facebook goes off the boil in the same way that Myspace did when it was purchased by Rupert Murdoch, the chances are that Google Buzz will take a while to build up a head of steam.
