Has the media made Afghanistan too dangerous for Prince Harry?

29th February 2008

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that Prince Harry will be returning from Afghanistan.

The Royal grandson and third in line to the throne snuck out to the war-torn country to do his bit and raise morale amongst the troops. Indeed, royals have often gone into battle – traditionally leading armies, although more recently in a more subtle way: Prince Andrew flew a helicopter during the Falklands conflict.

However, with easy, instant access to the media – and even real-time updates possible – for those of us in the Western world and for the Taliban, Afghanistan has been deemed too dangerous for Harry. He’ll be flown home.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are wondering if working on 29th February warrants overtime.
