Social media and grocery shopping are not really in the same area of our minds at the minute – there is little or no overlap between the two. I find ordering the supermarket delivery from Sainsburys every week online a slightly clunky task, although the interface has improved enormously recently.
But Heinz is hoping to break the mould by selling direct to the customer via Facebook. A new limited edition version of tomato ketchup (with balsamic vinegar – and limited to more than 1m bottles no less) is being offered first to 3,000 Facebook fans of Heinz UK.
First, you have to ‘Like’ the page – then you can order a bottle before it’s available in the shops.
