Last night, Nicky Robertson and I once again took to the stage to answer questions about ICT from a group of Somerset businesses.
We were on a panel of technology partners for Somerset County Council’s brilliant Connecting Somerset programme, informing local companies about how to use modern technology in commerce.
Social media was, as ever, a popular topic – and if you’re reading this having attended the event then please take a look at our main website for How To guides and more information about social media for business, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, blogging and content creation.
Promotional video creation also came up in conversation – now that it’s available to everyone and has such powerful search engine optimisation benefits, smaller and smaller businesses are looking to use it on their websites.
“I agree with Nick”
E-commerce was also discussed, thanks to Nick Pratt, MD of e-commerce specialists SiteMakers, as was SEO, with David Hurst from Higher Sites explaining why Google cannot be fooled and a good page ranking can only come from professional consultancy and hard work.
Lee Tebby from Axis First took questions on flexible working and other discussions included cloud computing, Internet security and legal issues on the web.
The event, at Taunton’s Tacchi Morris Centre, was hosted by Kevin Redpath from Redpath Productions.
As well as being an incredibly cost-effective and valuable service for Somerset’s businesses large and small, Connecting Somerset is one of the critical ‘soft landings’ for companies looking to move out of London. Free business support of this quality is rarely accessible and mistakes in ICT can be extremely costly.
