Those of us who use MobileMe on a daily basis will have noticed a significant upgrade to the interface in the last 24 hours.
As the web interface starts to look more and more like the desktop application of a Mac, so usability seems to have improved.
The large application buttons, accessible by a central menu button rather than a toolbar, should make toggling between calendar, mail and contacts functions less tedious.
I do like the idea of the MobileMe gallery, although I can’t really see the point, with iPhoto’s comprehensive Facebook and Flickr uploaders being so easy to use and manage. Do correct me if I’m missing the point.
Apple needs to innovate with MobileMe – it hasn’t changed much in several years and there are less expensive alternatives that some Mac fans swear by.
That said, the account type labels may point towards a new tiered system of membership that will offer new benefits. Several US MobileMe users have reported noticing their ‘Individual’ or ‘Family Pack’ memberships change to ‘Full Member’.
There have been rumours lately that Apple has plans to compete better with Google – we think they’d do well focusing on multi-level access to accounts for small businesses (especially creative ones).
