Q: Most popular videos on social media?
A: Any content with an engine.
Videos with cars or trucks in them seem to go viral in a heart- beat. Even the significant minority who find cars, bikes and big trucks a turn off still enjoy the thousands of online clips that roar their way onto the Internet.
So are we in love with our motors? Not so much in love as fascinated. My all-time favourite motor related video is Red Bull’s Kluge, which you might argue is not strictly petrol-head more machine-mixed-with-man. But it’s a brilliant experiment brilliantly filmed about speed, movement and players at the top of their game.
And this mass engine watching attraction is an opportunity for car and truck brands to get their message out there. Some of the glossiest You Tube sites belong to car producers, who’ve grasped the power of video to fill the online space with brand indicators.
The next step to make these videos truly effective, and to wring every last penny from the costs of production, is to thread them across the web in a consumer journey from engagement to purchase.
